OUR HISTORY
The story began in 1925, when Mr. Motiram Mahtani and his son Mr. Bhagwandas Mahtani opened their first store in Kolkata’s historic New Market. The bustling marketplace quickly embraced the brand that offered not just products, but a personal connection with every customer.

Before India’s independence, the Mahtani family expanded their presence beyond Kolkata by opening stores in Lahore and Karachi, both then part of undivided India. These stores built a reputation for quality and integrity.
But everything changed with the Partition in 1947.
After Partition
A New Beginning
In 1947, the family made the difficult decision to relocate fully to Kolkata, leaving behind their thriving businesses in Lahore and Karachi. With resilience and renewed determination, they rebuilt their legacy from the city they loved.
From then on, New Market became the heart and soul of B. Motiram.

- October 2006 – B. Motiram opened its elegant showroom on Camac Street, catering to a premium audience.
- July 2024 – The iconic New Market silver store was renovated and relaunched with a modern, renewed charm.
- February 2025 – The brand expanded once again with the opening of another beautiful showroom on Camac Street, strengthening its presence in one of Kolkata’s most prestigious retail zones.
- October 2026 – We are proud to mark a new milestone in its continuous evolution by expanding our branches to Rashbehari Avenue, bringing our timeless craftsmanship.
